Hi Life Stories Team J
It’s been two months since my last update, and I can’t believe we’re already well into March! With this ongoing heat, it hardly feels like autumn, but here we are.
The Life Stories program has been buzzing along—we’ve received 33 referrals so far this financial year, with five coming in just this month. I’m hoping we’ll hit 10 by the end of March. Right now, we have 10 stories in progress, keeping our team busy.
Our last training session ran across four weeks in February, with 10 participants, all of whom have now been accepted into the program. That brings us to 24 active recorders! With this growth, I’d love to boost our mentor numbers. We currently have just three active mentors, and they’re all being kept very busy. Below, I’ve included a brief outline of the mentor role. Mentoring doesn’t preclude you from recording stories, and I’d be happy to set up a time for you to chat with a current mentor and me to learn more.
Mentors are a huge part of making sure the Life Stories Program (LSP) runs smoothly. They help maintain our standards, ensure everything follows the right procedures, and most importantly, support volunteers so the whole process is a positive experience.
As a mentor, you would:
· Be a go-to person for volunteers, answering questions about LSP procedures and forms.
· Review and edit story drafts, providing helpful and timely feedback.
· Offer support when volunteers come across tricky or emotional situations, including guidance on professional boundaries.
· Keep a simple record of the mentoring process.
· Pass along any concerns, issues, or positive feedback to the LSP coordinator.
Mentoring is a great way to share your experience, support fellow volunteers, and keep the program running at its best. If you’re interested or want to learn more, just let me know!
Save the Date – Team Get-Together
Following the success of our Christmas lunch, I’d love to organise another informal gathering for our team. I’ve tentatively marked Thursday, 29 May for this, so please pop it in your calendar! We’d meet again at the Wellington Hotel—details to come closer to the date.
Training Opportunity – Working with Images & Layout
I’m looking to arrange a training session on working with images and document layout for those interested. If you’re confident with this and wouldn’t mind helping train others, please let me know—it would be much easier with a few extra hands! Once I know who’s keen, I’ll set some dates.
If there are other areas where you’d like additional training, I’m all ears! Suggestions are always welcome, and if you have skills you’re happy to share, even better.
Availability
Please keep me up-to-date with your availability – if you are planning holidays, would like a break, or expect to be unavailable in the coming months please let me know – this helps so much when I am allocating stories.
As always, my door is open—if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Looking forward to catching up with you all soon!
Cheers
Lynn
