When John Innis Wishart was born on 6 December 1833 in Elie, Fife, his father, Alexander, was 24 and his mother, Lillias, was 22. He married Janet (Jessie) Barr on 6 March 1856 in Angaston, South Australia. They had 11 children in 21 years. He died on 28 February 1919 in Lipson, South Australia, having lived a long life of 85 years, and was buried there.
