Shop News December 2022

 Shop News December 2022

Good news!  On Tuesday 15th the Quaker Service Committee appointed the new Quaker Shop Manager, Virginia Phillips. A loyal customer of the Shop for many years, Virginia is the Events Manager at The King’s Head and has wide experience organising wine tasting events. She is a member of the CWA and participates on Peter Goers’ weekly radio program. Come and welcome Virginia on Sunday 4th Dec at the Shop between 3-5pm. (See invitation attached).

We welcome back Frances O’Keeffe, who was a volunteer during the time that Topsy was manager. Frances has made a good recovery after a serious illness and is looking forward to meeting old friends and making new ones. Frances has a particular interest in literature and jewellery.

The Party in the Park on the 6th November was a very happy occasion in perfect weather. Volunteers brought delicious food to share and enjoyed good conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. See photos taken by Wendy Hartley in the album at the Shop.

Karina has kindly donated an A3 laminator and pouches. Until now we have had to go to Officeworks to print large posters, but no more! The laminator and pouches are at present kept in the kitchen in the coat rack area.

At a recent auction two items sold for $2,420, a very pleasing result! During the past year the Shop generated over $159,000, just exceeding our record takings last year. We have been able to donate over and above our usual contributions of $6,000 a month to Quaker Service and $2,000 a month to the Australian Refugee Association.

It was decided at the recent staff meeting that the Shop will close for the summer holiday on Saturday 17th December and re-open on Friday 27th January. The bin at Wattle Park will be locked from 10th December and unlocked on Feb 2nd.

During the holidays we will need to keep the surrounds of the Wattle Park bin and the Shop clear of unwanted donations. There is a list of days on the notice board at the Shop. If you are able to check the bin one day a week, please add your name to the list. This will ensure areas around the bin are kept tidy and our reputation intact.

Attached is a questionnaire. When completed, please place it in the box in the staff room or email to me. The questionnaire will help the Quaker Service Committee plan for the future of the Shop. To do that effectively we need your responses!

If you would like to join other volunteers for afternoon tea on Christmas Day at the Shop, please bring a plate of goodies to share at 3pm for a time of friendly companionship.

After I step back from the role of manager, I will continue as a volunteer.

Wishing you all a joyful Christmas, a restful holiday and a safe return next year.

With love,

Jo
